THE HUMAN BEHIND HUMAN RISK

I didn’t set out to be
the Human Risk guy...
From investment banks to asset managers, I’ve seen what happens when rules meet real life — and the chaos when they don’t stick.
I’ve held senior roles on both sides of the fence, as a regulator and as a risk & compliance officer. Full bio on LinkedIn.
I know exactly how the sausage gets made — and why it so often ends up undercooked.
But after 30+ years experience in highly regulated industries, I knew I had to do something differently…
MOST RISK AND COMPLIANCE STRATEGIES
IGNORE THE HUMANS THEY'RE TRYING TO INFLUENCE
so i set up human risk to change that.
I’ve been the Regulator, the rule enforcer and the risk officer. And yes, a curious troublemaker who asks “Wait, but does that actually work?”
Now I use behavioural science (and a touch of mischief) to help organisations understand why people behave the way they do — and how to guide them in smarter directions.
(Basically, I help you avoid a massive f**k up)
def. human risk (n) = the problem
def. Human Risk (n) = the solution
WHAT IS human risk?
It’s simple really: human risk = the risk of people doing things they shouldn’t — or not doing things they should.
❌ It’s staff ignoring a policy.
❌ A manager skipping the training.
❌ A team doing “just this once” workarounds.
It’s rarely malicious — it’s always human.
And behavioural science and creativity can help.
What you won't get from me
❌ Jargon
❌ Longwinded theory
❌ Corporate waffle
Just practical advice, sharp insights, and an unflinching look at what’s really going on in your organisation. With a few laughs along the way.

FUQs
Most sites have FAQs. I don’t.
Because the obvious questions aren’t the interesting ones.
These are the ones people think but don’t ask, and providers rarely answer. I’m answering them here, directly and unapologetically. If there's something additional you want to ask, please do, because no FUQs are given.
No. And let’s be honest, it’s hard to find a word less sexy than compliance. Human risk is broader: ethics, health & safety, cybersecurity, information security — basically any time you’re trying to influence human decision-making in whatever context. Compliance is part of it, but only one slice.
You won’t, until you see me. That’s why I share so much content online. What you see is what you’ll get. The fact that clients across sectors and geographies keep bringing me back should tell you plenty. (And if you’re wondering about logos — see the No Logo section, where I explain why I don’t use client logos on my site.)
Yes. I developed the principles of human risk in-house, and since 2019, I’ve been sharing them with clients across a range of sectors and geographies. My work is grounded in behavioural science and academic research, as well as practical experience. I use research as a foundation, but I know that it doesn’t always replicate neatly in the real world. That’s where creativity also comes in. If you want a pure academic, hire one. What I bring is different.
My style and my content are inseparable. If you want safe, don’t hire me. As an external speaker, I can say things you can’t, and I’m good at airing elephants in the room. That’s why people book me: to provoke, stimulate, and show their audience they’re serious about the subject. And yes, I take the time to ensure my slot fits the flow of your event.
Because I’m not a commodity. Pitches drain time, and there’s always someone willing to undercut. I put my energy into delivering value for clients who already get the point. If you’re just shopping, I’m not your guy.
Impact. I do this because I love it, and because I believe it matters. Of course, I want to be paid fairly — I put a lot in — but money isn’t my main driver. If it were, I’d have joined a big consultancy or stayed in banking. I’m motivated by making a real difference.
