No one hires me to get their people thinking the way they already do. They hire me to provoke, challenge assumptions and give people permission to think differently.
So, if we want to improve something, I see far less value in asking, '๐๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ?' and far more in '๐๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ง*๐ค๐ฌ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ด ๐ถ๐ฑ?'

Often, particularly with risk and compliance groups, that can feel counter-intuitive. But once people start exploring the extremes, things start to get interesting.ย
While there's usually only one way to get things right, there are multiple ways to f*ck things up. As s Compliance professional you can do it by approving nothing. But you can also do it by approving everything. You can f*ck up by not training employees. You can also do so by 'overtraining' them.ย
The exercise helps people see the balancing act in their role, and where they might already be getting it wrong without realising it.ย
It can feel weird, so thank you to everyone who embraced it this week. And to those joining me over the next few days, consider this a warning.ย
Sometimes better answers start with a very different question.
